Nigeria’s Wedding Photography Landscape is turning on its head. Couples are beginning to understand the need for great photographs of their wedding day and are demanding more creative shots. This has translated into the need to think harder to come up with new stuff for my clients and its been a time consuming affair.
Its been a long time since I blogged and while a lot has happened since then, the fact that we have only 24 hours in a day to do all we have to do means I have had to focus on getting albums ready for eager brides. But I am back and here we go.
I was recommended to Ufuoma and Ope by a mutual friend Nyema. I remember the day she called me and it was obvious she wanted me to do her wedding ( one requirement I have come to realize is good for my clients to fulfill before I shoot their wedding). She was a photographer so of course she knew what she wanted.
I met the bride first on her traditional wedding day and I was hoping we start off on a good note and that was exactly how it was. Ufuoma is a photographer and I guess she understood how important it is for you to have a good relationship with your wedding photographer. We became friends instantly and I think I can call her my friend more comfortably now.
Ope and Ufuoma met while they were very young children ( I think they were about 3yrs old I guess) and Ope proposed and Ufuoma agreed and today they are married after such a long time. Ok that is the summary in between there was a break that lasted a long time and which took the intervention of Mark Zuckerberg to heal and restore. Ufuoma claims she was the one who hunted him down. Who cares? Love was in the air and it was beautiful watching these two express it.
The white wedding day started early as they always do in Port Harcourt with the amazing Joyce Daniel who is a Jack, sorry a Jill of all trade and a Mistress of all of them doing make up for the bride and her family.
I have always believed that a wedding dress is only beautiful when a bride wears it. But this dress was before Ufuoma wore it.
And so were the shoes. I loved the way the light reflected on them.
As the day went on, we had a moment of humour when this beautiful angel drew her impression of the bride and brought it to show to her. No laughs please. encourage the talented. 😉
Around the house, behind close doors and open ones there was a buzz of activity and every struggled to ensure they played their parts. From coordination on the phone to dressing up.
As we prepared to leave the house, i guess it was a time that Ufuoma’s dad realized his daughter was leaving and not coming back as she has been used to. The handkerchief was appropriate at this moment.
The white service was held at The St Pauls Catholic Church at Garrison Port Harcourt. It is a beautiful church.
All this while, Opemipo sat quietly waiting for his bride to arrive. Our little angel was not just an artist who could draw but was also a great photographer. The future is bright.
And as the entire church watched, Ufuoma and Ope went to sign their papers 😉
The Beautiful Joyce Daniel!
Finally, it came to an end against our wishes and it was Ufuoma and Mom’s turn to feel the separation that was imminent. I just imagine how it feels to know your daughter is leaving to start her own life. Do you then stop worrying or do you begin to worry more about her?
I enjoyed every bit of this wedding. Ufuoma was a darling, her sisters gems, her parents where so accommodating. I met some old faces too from my growing up days and made new friends as I always do.
I enjoy weddings and I will be pleased if you invite me to do yours where ever that may be. Reach me via our contact form and drop us an invite. You can also subscribe to this blog to be the first to know when a new post comes up. Do not forget to like our Facebook page here
