The First Lady of Delta State at 50

The First Lady of Delta State, Deaconess Roli Uduaghan was 50 in October 2011 and I was there to document the event.

It was a beautiful day in the City of Asaba as people from far and wide came to grace this occassion.

Pictures of the birthday party of the wife of the Delta State GovernorIt all started with a church service at the Delta State Government house chapel. The creme de la creme of Delta State was there. The Speaker of the house of assembly, The deputy speaker, The First Lady of Lagos State, Mrs Abimbola Fashola, The First Lady of Bayelsa State, Mrs Sylva, The First Lady of Gombe State, Richard Mofe Damijo ( commissioner of tourism) and other dignitaries.
The soon to be wed Orode and Ryan were also there showing of their love for themselves ūüėČ Her Excellency was in such high spirits. She celebrated the day with such joy.
So was her husband. The way he danced……you wont remember he was the governor.¬† and the turnout? There was a huge crowd of well wishers. It was a time of prayers, worship and thanksgiving.¬† This was the birthday cake and I am still looking at this picture to unravel the mystery of this cake. It was a beautiful one.¬† And it was with such glee that the first lady cut the cake with an obviously happy husband beside her.¬†

That was it for the morning. But not for the day. The night party was d bomb.

Sammie Okposo led the singing of the national anthem.

We all stood at attention to siging the anthem, but my unpatriotic camera kept capturing images. We are still settling the matter of this¬†unpatriotic act.¬† After the anthem Orode settled down to a serious discussion with the father of her fiance, Mr Ray Okpu.¬† Eventually she was called up to say something about her mom and she had such flowing adoration for her.¬† Then it was the turn of the comedians to make us all laugh. Their effect was very visible.¬† Ay did his customary Nigerian girls dance in the club and in the church joke.¬† Deaconess Roli Uduaghan laughed and laughed………….
So did every other person in that hall. We held our tummies. Kai!!¬† Seyi Law? Lets not even go there sef. His croco co co co co dile joke was the joke of the day.¬† This guy was struck with a thunderbolt of laughter.¬† Funky mallam was not to be outclassed either. He showed his comedic skills as well.¬† Finally the church moved from the permanent site to the camp ground………………and that was the open line for Gordons as he stepped on stage.¬† More music came in the form of this young lady who won the Delta has got talent show.¬† Onye Ubanatu and Orode Uduaghan stepped on the stage next to introduce a documentary on the life of The First Lady of Delta State. The First Lady’s mother was one of those interviewed. She had such a beautiful smile. The First family of Delta State cuts the birthday cake.¬† and a toast to her health, long life and prosperity was given and shared by all.¬† Including Barrister Moses Odibo and wife.¬† RMD and Aig Imokhuede of Access Bank, Food was plenty. and the fine spirited and humble Orode Uduaghan was every where directing the feeding of guests.¬† Finally the Governor of Delta State, came on stage to sing to his wife the happy birthday song and a song they used to sing together as love birds years ago.¬† She couldnt contain it any more as her husband sang and onto the stage she came rushing to sing alongside him a song that showed how far they had come from the days he was driving a Volkswagen beetle car.¬† Finally she took the mic and thanked everyone for attending and for their good wishes towards her. Including Proffessor and Mrs Arubayi.¬† It was time for closing prayers and we had come to the end of this beautiful day.¬†

It ended with the national anthem rendered on the saxophone.

We wish her excellency more years to come.

Next year we will be primed to cover this event again and for a long time to come as well.
